Us makeup lovers are always on the hunt for an awesome highlighter, am I right? And what makes an awesome highlighter even better (to me) is an affordable price. So, I headed to Walmart to snag some. I chose Walmart because they seem to have the biggest selection of drug store cosmetics in my area. Both CVS and Walgreens selection is actually better, but it seems like they never have anything in stock. 🙁 I say part 1 because I am going to continue to look for these and will post some more at a later date! Let’s jump right in.
MAKEUP REVOLUTION Vivid Baked Highlighters in Radiant Lights
This one is one that I already had, so it’s been a bit used. I obviously really like this highlighter. When I first tried it, I wasn’t blown away by the pigment so I tried using my Shiseido Quick Fix spray and spraying that on my brush before tapping into the highlighter and it didn’t really change anything. So this is one I use when I want a natural, less intense highlight because it is pretty sheer as you can tell from the swatch up in the sliding gallery and I’m happy with that.
The color has a really pale rosey tone to it. I love the formula because it is extremely smooth. There is a little kick up when you swirl your brush in the pan, but it doesn’t go on powdery and it stays where it’s put. The packaging is sturdy. However, it does feel a TAD cheap but that’s okay to me because it’s only $6! I would recommend this highlighter to anyone who doesn’t care for a really intense effect.
Hard Candy Prismatic Highlighter
Okay… I had really high hopes for this highlighter because the packaging is beautiful and it just looks amazing in the pan. When I first swatched it, I was shocked at how chalky it is. You can tell on both the finger swatch and the arm swatch that it is chalky and powdery and just… ugh. When I used my fan brush to apply to my face, there was nothing on the brush after I tapped the excess off. So I tried it with a large fluffy eye shadow brush that was more dense. It is really pretty on the face; there’s just a lot off fall out and it takes a couple of seconds of blending to get it to act right.
Up close, you can see little tiny pieces of purple/blueish shimmer, but they are so tiny that it doesn’t really bother me. This highlighter was $6 at Walmart, and as of right now, I don’t think I would repurchase. However, I’m going to keep trying to get it to work because the color once you actually FINALLY get it blended out and get rid of the fallout and kick up everywhere, it is a nice color. Because of this, I would recommend it. The price is low and because of that, I’m not totally disappointed.
Hard Candy Just Glow! Baked Illuminating Powder Duo
…Where do I even start? I bought this highlighter duo because of the lighter shade. This was the lightest duo and I have pretty fair skin, especially when I haven’t used any self tanner or anything. First of all, I don’t even know why they would pair this light shade with that dark of a shade. Maybe they meant for it to be used with a bronzer or something, I have no idea.
I almost wanted to cry when I swatched this. I swished my finger in the pan for about 5 seconds and I did apply some pressure and it was almost as if nothing was there. The formula is rough, too. There is huge chunks of glitter that I had a hard time cleaning my arm of all of it afterwards. For that reason, I wouldn’t even use that dark shade as a bronzer. This was $8 and I do NOT recommend this product. Just don’t even waste $8 on this.
Milani Strobelight Instant Glow Powder
This highlighter reminds me a lot of the MUR highlighter except its a lot more intense which I love. I have yet to be disappointed by a Milani product. I love them. The little design in the pan is so pretty and there is very VERY little kick up. The color is similar to the Makeup Revolution Highlighter, except a touch more bronzy. It goes on so smooth and its easy to blend. This highlighter is as pigmented as some of my higher end highlighters so you really can’t beat that for $10. I would recommend you try out this product.
